Goldman Sachs partner Brian Robinson at 200 West Street. The sign that Goldman Sachs partner Brian Robinson created. Robinson's mission to revamp leadership — from his high C's to neon sign creations — appears to be rubbing off on clients and colleagues alike. He is currently making one for a Goldman partner with a fifth-floor office who asked for a customized sign to hang in that workspace, he said. The goal, he said, is for the signs to stand on the walls of Goldman Sachs "for years and decades to come."

Cohen, 46, will join Cloudflare, a San Francisco-based technology company aimed at helping businesses improve their internet security and performance. It will be a familiar role, as she served as Goldman's strategy chief from 2018 to 2020. Having spent 20 years inking deals within Goldman Sachs' investment banking unit, Cohen is no stranger to the boardroom. "But the reality is, Goldman Sachs is not a technology firm," Cohen said. When she broke the news to Argenti, he told her, 'This is exactly what you should do… this is exactly the right company," Cohen recalled.

Goldman Sachs announced its 2023 class of managing directors Thursday afternoon, giving 608 employees the coveted title. It's a smaller cohort than the bank's 2021 MD class, down 5% amid a dealmaking slowdown. Still, Goldman appears to have taken pains to promote employees in revenue-generating divisions like investment banking and trading. Goldman says the percentage of women it promoted as part of the 2023 MD class sets a record, up 1% from 2021. Two years ago, Goldman promoted the largest managing director class in its history, naming 643 employees to the designation in 2021.

Goldman Sachs partners are leaving — some 202 during David Solomon's five years as CEO by Insider's calculation. In particular, before Solomon, Goldman nurtured many fiefs and then spread the wealth from the most successful ones across the firm. Of the former Goldman executives that Insider interviewed, here are the most cited reasons they gave for leaving Goldman. When both men struggled, senior partners left, and Goldman stumbled in its efforts to wind down its balance-sheet investments. Goldman Sachs partners are paid well by any standard: $950,000 in base salary and often multiples of that in annual bonuses.

June 23 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs (GS.N) is likely to take a large writedown for its $2.2 billion acquisition of fintech lender GreenSky after seeking to divest the business it bought in 2021, CNBC reported on Friday, citing people with knowledge of the sale process. One bidder said GreenSky's loan origination platform is worth roughly $300 million, while another said it was worth closer to $500 million, according to the report. CNBC added the bids for the platform, which facilitates home improvement loans to consumers, were coming in well below Goldman's expectations. Shares of Goldman were down about 1.4% in mid-morning trading. The bank has been running a sale process for GreenSky, and may take a writedown on the $500 million of goodwill, or the premium it paid above the assets' book value, Goldman President and Chief Operating Officer John Waldron told investors at a conference in June.

For as long as I can remember, the safest place on Wall Street for job security was in tech. But according to one Wall Street billionaire, that sentiment won't hold true for much longer. As Insider's Paige Hagy reports, Griffin instead highlighted how programmers need to position themselves to provide the most value to companies in this post-ChatGPT world. In the before times (pre-ChatGPT), no one was really questioning the value programmers were adding. At least that's the take from Wall Street vet Marty Chavez.

Goldman COO John Waldron said economic uncertainty has been a major challenge for the bank. 2 said he could not guarantee the bank won't make more job cuts this year, citing continued economic uncertainty. When asked about the potential for future job cuts, Waldron cited those "crosscurrents" as a reason the bank's cost-cutting may not be over. In September, Goldman cut a few hundred staffers, including members of the investment bank's technology, media, and telecommunications team, Insider reported. "I think we have done a better job in the last four or five years really trying to build a deeper succession pipeline," Waldron said.

REUTERS/Brendan McDermidNEW YORK, June 1 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs Group Inc (GS.N) plans more workforce reductions as the difficult economic environment weighs on dealmaking, the bank's president said on Thursday. "The macro backdrop is extraordinarily challenging," Goldman's President and Chief Operating Officer John Waldron told investors at a conference, without specifying the scale of the layoffs. The firm is expected to cut fewer than 250 jobs in the coming weeks, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters in May. He also said he expects a 25% fall in market revenue for both equities and fixed income in the current quarter from a year earlier.
